Toyota Mirai Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle: Long-term introduction

We’ll delve deeper into sources and processes of hydrogen in subsequent updates, including a visit to the Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Energy Association’s Fuel Cell Seminar & Energy Exposition in November. Heck, if we can get enough H2, we might even drive up California’s vaunted Hydrogen Highway to Sacramento and visit the California Fuel Cell Partnership there. We have a year, after all.
For now, we’ve started driving the Mirai on real roads. Our Mirai is a blue 2019 with a sticker price of $58,500, steeper than a Nissan Leaf, for sure, but less than most Teslas. You can lease a Mirai for $389 a month for 36 months with $2,499 due at signing, PLUS they give you a $15,000 fuel card! So if hydrogen retails for about $16 per kilogram and a full tank is usually less than three kilograms and the Mirai’s range is over 300 miles… well, you do the math. We’ll juggle all those figures in subsequent posts.
For now, we are interested to see what life in a hydrogen utopia is all about. Stay tuned, and H2 to you!
